A blog ends and a blog begins

While this post marks the end of WestBlog.net… it also highlights an exciting beginning.

We’re moving to a new home in the blogosphere, with a new purpose and focus.

Our new blog is Legal Current and you can find it at LegalCurrent.com.

There, you’ll find even more news, information and commentary on the issues, trends, people and products that are shaping the legal landscape.

If you are a current subscriber to WestBlog, through RSS or email, the transition is automatic and you won’t miss a thing. However, please update any bookmarks in your browser.

Thank you for reading WestBlog, and making it an important and valuable communications platform for our businesses.

And thanks for joining us on Legal Current. We look forward to your comments and feedback.

Happy birthday to WestBlog

happy_bday_blog2

One year ago we hit “Publish” on our first post here on WestBlog.net.

Today as we mark this blog’s “birthday”, 189 posts later, we’ve assembled what we hope is an informative collection of insights on the trends in legal technology, the practice of law, and the work within the legal businesses of Thomson Reuters.

One of the main highlights of WestBlog’s first year, for us, is when we took our show on the road.

We debuted WestBlog at LegalTech New York 2008, and we’ll be at the 2009 show throughout the next few days. Trade shows and conferences give us a great chance to meet attendees and presenters at those events and, in turn, put some highlights from those conversations on WestBlog through text, video, audio and photos.

WestBlog also provides a great way for us to showcase the content we focus on in our Westcast podcasts, and the video clips we produce for our YouTube channel.

So, as we mark one year of getting our “blog legs” underneath us. We want to thank you for reading WestBlog and commenting on our posts. And, thanks for subscribing to our updates, either by RSS or e-mail.

We welcome your suggestions for what you want us to focus on as we continue to use this blog to provide a compelling platform for news and information about the legal industry and the businesses within Thomson Reuters.

And, watch this space in the coming months for news about where we’re taking WestBlog next.

Adam Smith, Esq

Readers of the popular Adam Smith, Esq know that Bruce MacEwen is the man behind the blog. Or, as he calls it, a publication – one that gets more than 300,000 page views per month. He started it in late 2003 and now has more than 900 articles on it.

When he’s not publishing articles to his site, MacEwen is a lawyer and consultant to law firms on strategic and economic issues. His interests in Web 2.0 tools and law firm economics brought him to ILTA ’08 as a speaker and attendee.

MacEwen is presenting the sessions “Web 2.0 – Law Firm Adoption” and “Law Firm Economics 103.”

He gave us some interesting insight on blogs, podcasts, wikis and social networking. For the record, he’s not a fan of lawyers choosing to be on MySpace and Facebook, as this video interview explains:

Doug Cornelius at KM Space blogged about MacEwen’s Web 2.0 session at ILTA.

Blog coverage from ILTA

We’ll be in Grapevine, Texas starting this Sunday afternoon for the ILTA ‘08 Conference. The theme of the four-day event from the International Legal Technology Association is “Global Perspective, Peer Advantage.”

(Aerial view of the Gaylord Texan Resort and Convention Center)

ILTA ’08 will attract attendees looking to further their professional development in a structured educational setting, learn from peers, and make valuable connections. West and other Thomson Reuters legal businesses, including Elite and LiveNote, will be in the exhibit hall. We’ll be reporting on the conference with updates, photos and interviews with attendees – and some of our colleagues, too.

Let us know if you’re also planning on being at ILTA ’08 and want to give us your perspective on how technology supports the legal profession, or the conference in general. Just leave a comment to this post and we’ll get in touch.

ILTA also will be blogging from the conference so be sure to check out the updates there. For more information on the schedule of events, visit the ILTA ’08 Conference website.
