ABA TECHSHOW delivers value

ABA TECHSHOW, presented by the ABA’s Law Practice Management Section (LPM), just marked its 23rd year. The event in Chicago is billed as “the world’s premier legal technology CLE conference and expo,” with three days of educational sessions in legal technology and networking for legal professionals.

Several of our colleagues within the legal businesses of Thomson Reuters were on hand and we did some video interviews with a few of them on April 3, the last day of the show, to get a sense of what they were hearing from customers.

Sean Carter, field technology manager for West, discusses a presentation he gave on delivering value and using technology wisely to improve efficiency and workflow in this video interview:

We also talked with Jill Dabrowski, a product developer at West, who discussed the importance of understanding chronology and timelines for attorneys – especially litigators.

Knowing when things happened or what’s happening next is important- not only in managing a case, but also versions of documents and overall workflow. Here’s Jill’s interview about West Case Timeline:

Client development on display at ABA Techshow

We’ve moved on to the ABA Techshow at the Chicago Hilton. And it’s clear that the client development businesses of Thomson Reuters are showcasing their technology and tools at Techshow.

ABA TECHSHOW in Chicago

ABA TECHSHOW is underway today through Saturday in Chicago. It’s another great chance for legal professionals to learn firsthand about the legal technology products and services of Thomson West and other Thomson businesses that serve the legal marketplace.

Rich Carlson is an applications integrator for West in Chicago. He offers some observations on the show and the West booth:

Things are busy for Thomson personnel here at ABA TECHSHOW. Having moved to a new venue in the Chicago loop at the Hilton, ABA TECHSHOW has attendees from all over the United States, the Caribbean and overseas.

More than 100 vendors to the legal market are exhibiting their products and services for law firms, government and corporate legal departments.

At the West booth, Deanna Aamodt and Beth Stumpp entered customer names for a drawing; Thomson research, litigation and workflow solutions also garnered interest from the diverse practitioners.

In just over two hours, I spoke with attorneys from the Dominican Republic, an attorney and a judge from the United States Virgin Islands, a small firm practitioner from Nebraska, a law student from Puerto Rico who will be entering her family’s law office when she graduates and many more.

The customers and prospects that stopped by today represented corporate legal departments, state courts and small, medium and large law firms. They all use our Thomson tools and services to help them in their work each day.

LiveNote also is very popular, as the difficulties in deposition practice is a common point of pain for our customers.

Staffing our booth is field sales representative Rafi Arbel, who uses his experience as a lawyer to help prospective customers understand how our products and services can support their workflow. Regional Sales Manager Nick Nicolini, an ABA TECHSHOW veteran, thought that the traffic through our booth today was top-notch.

Print Manager Bob Grabowski sold print volumes today on electronic discovery to attorney/consultants.

All in all, a successful start to the show. Glad I could share some of it with the readers of WestBlog.
